My journey is one of science and soul, of nature and people, of questions that led me to fragrances and a mission that continues to grow.
From a young age, I was fascinated by how things worked. Chemistry and physics were my favourite subjects, and while I may have broken more than my fair share of laboratory glassware, my curiosity never broke with it.
At home, I began creating my own hair and skincare products after struggling to find products that worked for my thick hair and sensitive skin. Looking back, formulation found me long before I realised it would become my life’s work.
Although I later studied Business Administration at Ashesi University, my heart never drifted far from nature. During my third year, a book on humanity’s relationship with the environment profoundly changed the way I saw the world.
It inspired my final-year agricultural project and ignited a lifelong mission to create value from Africa’s natural resources while encouraging more sustainable ways of living.
After graduating, I made an unconventional decision. I turned down a higher-paying opportunity in the oil and gas industry to join a growing agricultural company instead.
I wanted to immerse myself in agriculture, understand its challenges from the ground up, and learn how value could be created from nature.
Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I could have made, shaping the way I think, formulate, and build SANHWE today.
While I had found my purpose in agriculture, I hadn’t yet discovered the medium through which I would express it. That changed during a trip abroad, where I discovered perfume oils and became curious.
The more I researched, the more I discovered something that completely changed the way I viewed fragrance. That discovery felt deeply familiar. It connected everything I had loved throughout my life: science, agriculture, creativity, and nature.
My curiosity led me into years of study, research, and experimentation. I trained in cosmetic formulation, conventional perfumery, and eventually natural perfumery, learning from experts around the world while continually refining my craft.
Today, I formulate confidently with both botanical ingredients and modern aroma molecules, drawing from an ever-growing palette of raw materials to create fragrances with intention and purpose.
The dream has never simply been about making perfumes. It’s about creating a fragrance house that celebrates Africa’s botanical richness while demonstrating how agriculture, craftsmanship, science, and sustainability can exist beautifully together.
Over time, I realised that my journey had always been about looking beyond the obvious, seeing possibility where others saw ordinary, asking questions, and discovering beauty hidden within nature.
That philosophy eventually became the name SANHWE, a Twi word meaning “Take Another Look.”
It’s an invitation to look beyond the surface, rediscover the richness of Africa’s botanical heritage, and appreciate the remarkable stories hidden within every African ingredient, every fragrance, and every experience.
Sometimes, all it takes is taking another look to discover something extraordinary.
My hope is to help others see fragrance differently, not simply as something we wear, but as an experience and a celebration of science, agriculture, craftsmanship, and the remarkable plants that surround us every day.
Above all, I hope everyone who encounters SANHWE feels the same care, curiosity, and respect that shape every fragrance we create. I believe the experience we offer should be every bit as memorable as the scent itself.
Every SANHWE fragrance begins long before the bottle. It starts in the soil, passes through the hands of growers, makers, and artisans, and finally becomes a story ready to be worn.
